Product Details

Harriet Tubman carried the knowledge of roots and stars and used it to set people free.

Her mother taught her which roots healed and which ones killed. She moved through the dark with that knowledge — into marshes and pine forests, into winters without maps, back south thirteen times for the people who were still waiting. Hope was the most radical thing she carried. It never ran out.

She scattered wild onions and crushed pepper on the path behind her to confuse the hounds. She signaled safety with the call of a barred owl — a sound no one would question in the night.

She never lost a passenger.
